'2022 Annual Update - Irish Statistical System Code of Practice'

This is the 2022 annual update of the Irish Statistical System Code of Practice (ISSCoP). During 2022, Ireland's response to the Ukraine crisis highlighted the critical importance of high quality public sector data to support evidence-informed decision making.  The ISSCoP is a key component in further strengthening the utility and quality of Irish Official Statistics.

The CSO is tasked with the creation of the necessary coordination frameworks that support the broader Irish Statistical System (ISS) to meet the needs of the broad suite of user groups including decision makers and the public alike. The ISS also assists the CSO to meet Ireland’s legislative requirements as set in in EU legislation. During 2022, the CSO continued to monitor compliance with both the ISSCoP by compilers of Official Statistics, and with the European Statistics Code of Practice by compilers of European Statistics.

There was considerable cooperation between the CSO and Government Departments and Agencies in terms of building commitment to best practice in the production of Official Statistics under the ISSCoP. During the year a further four public sector bodies had a range of Official Statistics ISSCoP certified, namely the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Health, Department of Education and the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment, with a number of other organisations actively engaged in the ISSCoP certification process. Details of the Official Statistics certified during 2022 can be found on the ‘Official Statistics’ at www.isscop.ie.

CSO is very appreciative of the ongoing support it has received again during 2022 throughout the Civil and Public Service, in the continued implementation of this significant initiative which strengthens the ability of the ISS to meet both national and EU needs. On behalf of CSO I look forward to continuing this collaboration with all our partners into the future.
